Match preview : Chelsea take on Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa

Fortunes are turning quite handsomely at Stamford bridge under new manager Graham Potter, there’s a growing confidence in and around the Chelsea camp at the moment, whilst some mightcall it the new manager bounce, others will only see it as signs of good things to come.

However, a commanding win away at Milan placed Chelsea in a decent position for qualification to the knockout stages of theChampions League on Wednesday night.

Chelsea will be looking to extend their decent run of results under new Manager Graham Potter against a resurgent Aston Villa side, Villa who are unbeaten in four games will be hoping to continue that run against Potter’s men on Sunday. For Chelsea, the mission is Crystal clear, to ambush Villa and to snatch all 3 points. There’s no better way to mount an ambush than with a prolific striker in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the vanguard of your attack.

Aston Villa Team news :

Villa will be without long-term absentees Jed Steer, Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara while left-back duo Ludwig Augustinsson and Lucas Digne aren’t expected to be ready for their respective returns from hamstring and heel injuries. Leon Bailey is expected to make it into the squad as he has resumed training yesterday.

Chelsea Team news :

Chelsea were sweating over the fitness of right back Reece James after the England international picked up a knock on his knee in the win over AC Milan on Wednesday. Not until news broke out that the injury was worse than initial feared, one that might potentially see the Chelsea man miss out on a trip to Qatar alongside Ngolo Kante who had a major setback in his recovery.

While Hakim Ziyech, despite resuming training this week and Wesley Fofana who is a long term absentee set to miss the trip to Villa on Sunday.

Aston Villa potential line up : (4-2-3-1) Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Young; Dendoncker, Douglas Luiz, J.Ramsey; Buendia; Watkins, Ings.

Chelsea potential line up : Chelsea: (3-4-3) Kepa; Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Koulibally, Azpilicueta, Chilwell, Jorginho, Kovacic, Sterling, Mount, Aubamayang.

My preferred Chelsea line up : Chelsea: (3-4-3) Kepa; Chalobah, Thiago Silva, Koulibally, Aszpilicueta, Jorginho, Loftus Cheek, Cucurella, Sterling, Mount, Aubamayang.

Score prediction : Aston Villa 0:2 Chelsea

Villa have been struggling for results and goals this seasonhaving notched just 7 so far, only Wolves (3) have fewer goalsthan the West Midlands team,

If Steven Gerrard and his team are to get anything away from a revitalized Chelsea team under the guidance of new manager Graham Potter, they’ll need to put in extra shifts to stop Chelsea’s attacking force full of confidence. Villa and Gerrard know what’s coming, but so did Milan.
