Player ratings: Chelsea make it three wins in a row against Leicester – their first win away since October

Chelsea made it three wins in a row after a well-fought 3-1 win against Leicester at the King Power Stadium, their first win away since October.

Ben Chilwell put the Blues in front with a fantastic volley against his former club, before Patson Daka drew the hosts level. Kai Havertz restored Chelsea’s lead with a first-time chip and Mateo Kovačić secured the three points with a late powerful finish.

Kepa Arrizabalaga-  6/10

Slightly concerning how shaky Kepa looked in the air today. The Spaniard failed to deal with aerial balls on multiple occasions, often pushing them into more dangerous areas. He did make a couple of good saves to prevent Leicester equalising when the Blues were up 2-1.

Marc Cucurella- 7/10

Cucurella followed up a good performance against Dortmund in midweek with a display of similar fashion. The Spaniard was lively and made a match-high seven tackles. He was booked mid-way through the first half, but that didn’t seem to stop the 24-year-old diving into challenges.

Kalidou Koulibaly- 7/10

Another well-rounded performance at the back for Koulibaly. The defender has impressed in his last three outings and is beginning to look like the player that Chelsea thought they were signing at the start of the season. Even showed some impressive skill, before playing a lofted cross that found Chilwell to strike Chelsea’s opening goal.

Wesley Fofana- 7/10

Fofana seems to be going from strength to strength at Chelsea at the moment. Playing against his former club, the Frenchman made two tackles, two clearances, and two blocks. He did pick up an early booking but kept his composure to see out the rest of the game. Was denied a headed goal by a fine save by Danny Ward.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek- 7/10

A positive performance from Loftus-Cheek playing as a part of a back five once again. The Englishman looked to get forward constantly and won an early free-kick deep in the Leicester half after some fine dribbling. He was removed midway through the second half for a more defensive option in Trevoh Chalobah.

Ben Chilwell- 8/10

This is the Ben Chilwell Chelsea has been so desperately missing. After taking a long time to recover from injury it is starting to look like the fullback is getting back to his best. A fantastically taken volleyed goal opened the scoring for the Blues, and Chilwell posed a constant attacking threat on the left flank.

Enzo Fernández- 8/10

Well, that assist to Kai Havertz for Chelsea’s second goal was simply sublime. The Argentine chipped a ball over the Leicester defence straight into the path of Havertz who dinked it over Ward. Throughout the game, Fernández was playing good attacking passes. In defence he was strong too, making four tackles.

Mateo Kovačić- 8/10

The Croatian secured the points for Chelsea with a vicious shot that resembled something like a scissor kick. It was an important goal, and Kovačić, who captained the Blues, was a strong force in midfield next to Fernández.

Mykhailo Mudryk- 5/10

A really difficult first 70 minutes of the game for Mudryk, who looked like he wasn’t managing to cope with the physicality of some of Leicester’s defenders. Later on in the game, as space began to open up, however, he began to show what he was capable of. Unlucky to score a goal that was ruled out for a tight offside. He did manage to get his first assist for Chelsea, however, when his headed pass found Kovačić.

Kai Havertz- 8/10

Another great performance from Havertz coming off the back of the Borussia Dortmund game. The German started with a fantastic through ball to Félix who should have scored, before finding the back of the net himself with a first-time volleyed chip on the stroke of half time. He was denied a second by a fantastic save from a header. Havertz looked determined for the entire 90 minutes, and he was involved in Chelsea’s third goal, playing the cross to Mudryk who got the assist.

João Félix- 4/10

A difficult day for the Portuguese attacker, with things just not going his way in front of goal. It seemed he had doubled Chelsea’s lead when he chipped Ward, only for his shot to strike the post. He then found the back of the net later on but he had drifted offside when he really had not needed to. He must take fault for Leicester’s equalising goal, giving the ball away cheaply in his own half, which lead to Daka’s powerful strike.

Subs

Connor Gallagher- 7/10

He’s becoming a bit of a super sub for Chelsea over recent weeks. Gallagher was brought off the bench in the second half, and once again played well. He won two tackles and helped reinforce Chelsea’s midfield well.

Trevoh Chalobah- 6/10

A rare opportunity to get on the pitch for Trevoh Chalobah, and he played his part. The English defender slotted in on the right side of defence, and helped ensure Leicester could not force their way back into the game.

Christian Pulisic- 6/10

It is clear Pulisic is not 100% match fit but good to see the American get minutes once again. He did not, however, have much of an impact on the game when he was brought on.

Carney Chukwuemeka- N/A

Benoît Badiashile- N/A

Graham Potter- 8/10

It has been a perfect seven days for Graham Potter, completely turning the ship around with three very positive results. The team looked well structured today and in truth could have scored more than just three goals. This is the kind of form Chelsea fans expect to see from their team, and Potter may just be starting to deliver.
