Player ratings: Noni Madueke grabs late winner in message to Mauricio Pochettino

An ugly win, but importantly a win for Chelsea. It’s one of those that we’d put aside in the “forgettable” files, but it’s three points, and we take them.

Djordje Petrovic – 7

Solid distribution, a few tidy saves and nothing much else of note. We can’t ask much more from our keeper today.

Malo Gusto – 8

My player of the match. Absolutely fantastic today, with three tackles and three interceptions made, and an overall really solid shift today. We have a super back up to Reece James.

Axel Disasi – 5

Not overly pretty or watchable, but helped get the job done. It’s hard to judge a defender when not tested all too much, like Disasi today, but it’ll do.

Benoit Badiashile – 5

Again, just the same as Disasi, not superb, but not explicitly poor. There really isn’t much more to add, which might well be a good thing.

Levi Colwill – 5

A quiet shift for sure. It’s been hard to judge today, especially when our defenders didn’t particularly stand out. Levi wasn’t exactly poor, but didn’t stand out as great either.

Moises Caicedo – 7

94% pass accuracy, 9 from 13 ground duels won, a solid shift tonight, even on the eye, from Moises Caicedo. We were slow, and poor tonight overall, but he at least allowed things to keep moving, which is important.

Conor Gallagher – 6

Involved as ever, energetic as ever. We never see Conor Gallagher as the perfect “six” but what he’ll always offer is workrate and business in the middle third, and we needed that tonight to combat Palace’s energy there.

Ian Maatsen – 5

Quiet all in all. Who can blame him? An unfamiliar position, at least for the past few months. Nothing of note to report.

Christopher Nkunku – 7

Exciting, thoughtful, just great. Played a big part in our opening goal and definitely gave us a lot going forward. In time, the goals will come, and we all can’t wait for it.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 7

An important goal, and should’ve had two! Mudryk was good tonight, solid enough and gave us a fair bit on the left hand side. Four goals in all competitions this season, he’s improving a lot.

Nicolas Jackson – 6

Not poor but not great. Some tidy hold up play, but all in all a quiet shift. At least better than usual.

Mauricio Pochettino – 6

Hardly had many choices with tonight’s lineup, but it got the job done. Not pretty, but a win is a win. It definitely buys some time.

Thiago Silva – 6

Solid, and not much else to note.

Romeo Lavia – 6

A quiet debut all in all, but no troubles from me!

Armando Broja – 5

Hardly in the game with just 12 touches. Nothing much to report.

Noni Madueke – 7

Our winning goalscorer, and an overall bright cameo. Might we soon see more of Noni?

Alfie Gilchrist – N/A

A win is a win. Ugly or not, we just have to take it!
