Player ratings : Todd Boehly oversee’s a 2 goal collapse against Wolves at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea threw away a two-goal lead in the last minute as potential new boss Todd Boehly watched on. A Lukaku brace looked to have given the Blues all three points, before two late Wolves goals saw Chelsea slip up once again at Stamford Bridge. Thomas Tuchel’s side are now only four points clear of Arsenal, who have a game in hand against Leeds tomorrow.

PLAYER RATINGS:

Edouard Mendy- 6/10

There was nothing Mendy could do about either of Wolves’ goals. A long-range shot whistled into the top corner, before a 97th-minute equaliser pierced the net again. He made a few decent saves, but he’ll be grateful for some poor finishing by Wolves, who could’ve had more goals.

César Azpilicueta- 4/10

Chelsea’s captain looks so far off the pace as the season draws to a close. Rumoured to be going to Barcelona at the end of the season, Azpilicueta received an early yellow card after being nutmegged and sticking an arm out. The player who used to be so defensively sound, looked rash and out of control today.

Thiago Silva- 7/10

So disappointing for the Brazilian, who will feel let down by his fellow defenders once again. He made some crucial last-ditch tackles and blocks and seemed to have earned his side three points. The veteran defender deserves an apology in the dressing room.

Antonio Rüdiger- 5/10

Rudiger started the game well, making some great chipped passes forward which could have resulted in goals. His defending, however, which has been so solid this season, has taken a dip in the last few games. Some rash passes and poor clearances, Chelsea’s centre back did not cover himself in glory today.

Reece James- 7/10

A good performance from Chelsea’s star defender. Started the first half as a wing back, floating in some dangerous balls into the area. An ingenious freekick that caught the Wolves keeper out just flashed wide of the post and was unlucky not to nestle in the bottom corner. James, who joined the back three in the second half will be hugely disappointed with the late equaliser.

Marcos Alonso- 6/10

The Spaniard who has been linked with a move back to his home nation this week was subbed off at half time. He did not offer much threat attacking wise, with some poor crosses and a free-kick straight into the wall. Chelsea’s defence was opened up too much in the first half, which may explain the early substitution.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek- 6/10

Ruben’s dribbling is a joy to watch. The way he effortlessly shrugs off and glides past opponents is phenomenal. His final pass, however, lets him down so often. He made multiple runs today where he drove forward the Chelsea attack, only to misplace a pass and effectively kill the attack. He needs to work on that final product ahead of next season.

Mateo Kovačić- 6/10

Another player whose dribbling talent shines bright in the Chelsea side. His style is similar to Eden Hazard with his low sense of gravity. The Croatian should’ve put the game to bed for the Blues as he darted into the box only to fire straight at José Sá from close range.

Christian Pulisic- 6/10

Pulisic started the game looking like a man with a point to prove, some fast movement and dribbling showing his intent from the off. He played a nice pass into Lukaku to assist his second goal. Far too often, however, the American held onto the ball for too long, when the pass to release a teammate was on.

Romelu Lukaku- 8/10

Brought back into the starting line-up, Romelu Lukaku took full advantage of the chance to impress new potential owner Todd Boehly. His tenacity in the challenge won Chelsea a penalty, which the Belgian coolly slotted away into the bottom corner. His second was sublimely finished into the bottom right corner from the edge of the area.

Romelu Lukaku delivered but even that didn’t stop Chelsea throwing the game away.

Timo Werner- 6/10

No one can question the enthusiasm of Timo Werner. He runs all game and works hard for the team. He was unlucky to have a goal ruled out today for a very soft foul. His final pass, however, was so poor. Far too often the German would not get his head up and look for a player in Blue, resulting in the ball being easily cleared by a Wolves player.

Substitute ratings :

Saul- 5/10

Saul came on at half time to bring a sense of calm to a Chelsea defence that had been opened up several times in the first half. At first, the substitution seemed to pay off, with Chelsea going two goals up. Saul’s poor positioning, however, showed later in the game, with Chelsea’s defence being opened up time and time again.

Malang Sarr- N/A

Kai Havertz- N/A

Tuchel- 6/10

Tuchel would’ve hoped for a better performance in front of prospective new owner Todd Boehly. Dropping Mount and Havertz ( although could be rest ) and bringing in Lukaku and Pulisic were bold decisions which looked to have paid off- Lukaku bagging a double. Poor defensive work, however, undid his side today, and the late goal would have no doubt annoyed Tuchel. The German will now be certainly looking over his shoulder, as the gap between Chelsea and 5th position gets smaller and smaller.
