Rating the Defenders and Keepers for the year to Date

Petr Cech – 7/10 – Solid as ever and the new owner of our clean sheet record, still one of the best in the business and1 position we don’t have to worry about every week, getting on though and has been prone to some mistakes from set pieces this year. Does Courtois take his spot next year??Mark Schwarzer – 6/10 – Has done all that could be expected of him and its been great to have a backup keeper i don’t want cover my eyes the whole time while he is playing, obviously not a long term option but has been a good signing

Ashley Cole – 5/10 – Hasn’t been a great year for the England left back, has lost a bit of pace and has been losing players a lot and looks off the pace, has also lost his starting spot to a natural Right Back.
Days most likely numbered with the club seeming determined to land Luke Shaw

Branislav Ivanovic – 6/10 – Solid at RB as well as CB, but limited at both, on the right he defends well but wastes the ball countless times, simply CANNOT cross the ball, however is a great threat from set pieces and Jose seems to love him

Gary Cahill – 7/10 – Seems to have cemented his spot as John Terry’s partner in defence and has been very good this year, dangerous when he can get forward and a fine defender, sometimes prone to backing off oncoming attackers too much but makes up for this with well timed challengers

John Terry – 9/10 – Been OUTSTANDING, back to his best, has lost a little speed but now makes up for it by his positional sense, Is the heart and soul of the club

JT PASSION

Cesar Azpilicueta – 8/10 – Started slowly and couldn’t get a game at the start as Jose preferred Ivanovic at RB, got his chance with Cole’s decline in form at LB and hasn’t looked back, been great at LB and RB and has earned the managers trust

David Luiz – 7/10 – Never likely to be a Favourite of Jose because of his maverick style, the Brazillian has done well at CB or more recently when called on as a DM, never far from a transfer rumour and will be interesting to see how Jose evaluates him at seasons end

Tomas Kalas – 4/10 – had high hopes coming back from a promising loan at Vitesse that he could start breaking into the 1st team, however an early injury  derailed that hope and he hasn’t had a look in since his recovery, likely to head back out on loan
