Chelsea’s midfield rebuild continues with three midfielders on the cards. Tyler Adams is undergoing a medical this afternoon after Chelsea activated his release clause yesterday, sources tell LondonsFirst.
Moises Caicedo is the priority for the club and rumours of a late bid from Liverpool have been described as “games”. Chelsea want to secure the deal either today or tomorrow and LondonsFirst understands both clubs were in active and intense talks this morning over the fee.
According to several sources, Chelsea are likely to table a base fee of £90m, whilst LondonsFirst understands that Brighton have been getting annoyed with the representatives of Moises Caicedo as they feel that although Caicedo has asked to leave this summer, his representatives have drastically turned his head over the last few days. Sources close to Caicedo deny this and say that he has always wanted Chelsea but has given the deal time to be concluded.
As for Romeo Lavia, sources have told LondonsFirst that the £48m bid last night was genuine, but the structure of the deal was unfavourable and Chelsea knew it would be turned down.
You can attribute this to suggestions that Chelsea have also been playing “games” of their own, to put pressure on Brighton perhaps to sell.
Although confidence of signing all three is not as high as others, LondonsFirst has been told not to rule out a bid of over £50m for Romeo Lavia, this is a player that the club have been tracking for a long time.
LondonsFirst exclusively reported that a Chelsea scout was watching Lavia against Nottingham Forest at the tail end of last season, on 8th May.
Meanwhile, away from midfield, Chelsea have asked Bayern Munich to include an obligation to buy in the deal for Kepa Arrizabalaga, LondonsFirst understands.
Finally, Crystal Palace are interested in Callum Hudson Odoi but the wage barrier is thought to be an issue with Fulham a more likely destination as things stand.
